Mobile Marketing Case Study: Van Gogh Gallery
Website: www.vangoghgallery.com
Project type: Mobile Marketing (Android Application)
Challenge: Van Gogh Gallery noticed an increasing number of users were accessing
their website from mobile devices rather than their computers. They
needed to enhance their website for customers to view the images and
other information more clearly from their mobile phones. Since several viewers own smart phones, Van Gogh Gallery wanted to create a
mobile app. With so many apps in the marketplace showcasing Van Gogh
paintings, Van Gogh Gallery wanted to provide a full gallery of Van
Gogh’s work for his most enthusiastic fans to enjoy.
Solution: The Net Impact developed an Android mobile app that would show the users a complete collection of Van Gogh’s paintings. They thought it was important to show the full breath of Van Gogh's work. This application comes with over 800 images of Van Gogh’s paintings. For each painting, the mobile app display’s the title, the location where it was painted, the year it was painted, and the painting’s current location. Furthermore, they wanted to provide some history or information about each painting and the artist himself. The Net Impact’s mobile app development partner, Unidev, developed the app using the Java programming language and running the Android plug-in on the Eclipse IDE. The development team tested the app on the Android emulator (testing several versions of android devices), on a Galaxy S mobile device running Android 2.1, and on a Viewsonic G tablet running Android 2.2.
