Usability Testing Case Study: City of Wentzville
Client: City of Wentzville
Website: www.wentzvillemo.org
Project Type: Website Usability Testing
Challenge: The City of Wentzville’s new website was recently created using Auctori, the SEO-friendly content management system. Once the new website was complete, The City of Wentzville wanted to know how user-friendly the website’s navigation and overall experience was for visitors and to get a better idea of traffic flow and visitor satisfaction.
Solution: The Net Impact created a series of scenarios and tasks for testers to complete on the City of Wentzville’s website. These tasks were specifically designed to take testers through the navigation pathways of the site and to recreate the experience of a typical visitor to the website. A third party user testing service was enlisted to implement the tasks to a broad sample of testers. A random sampling of testers, with diverse backgrounds including gender, age, country, income level, and computer skill level, was achieved to best represent actual visitors to the site. As testers performed each task, their mouse movements, clicks, and spoken feedback were recorded. Once the user tests were complete, The Net Impact analyzed videos and tester feedback to generate recommendations and next steps in order to improve the user experience.
The testers provided valuable insight about the website and its usability - both positive and negative. Based on navigation observations and tester comments, The Net Impact identified several key changes including navigation, layout, and website function updates to be implemented into the website in order to improve navigation and overall user experience.
